Guided By Voices - Hold On Hope

"Reaching out for a hand that we can't see
Everybody's got a hold on hope
It's the last thing that's holding me"

Stole this from a Scrubs episode, that show has a pretty decent soundtrack when it comes to sad songs.. Anyway, just grabbing these lines; put it under one for the 'listen to when in need of uplifting'. God knows life just seems to be about trying to connect with the right people for one reason or another.. -.-

Matchbox Twenty - Unwell

"All night hearing voices telling me
That I should get some sleep
Because tomorrow might be good for something"

I really envy people who merely lie there and drop off to sleep practically instantly.. There isn't much time in this busy life to do some self-reflection, so taking the time to think about things is good, especially when you have some decisions you have to nail.. But if it keeps you up for half an hour, thinking of past mistakes, unachievable futures, and whateverelse lies in between, and it happens to be the holidays where you have nothing going on..

Gosh, I hate thinking about the past; tomorrow's where it's at.

Yui Makino - Symphony

"黄昏の夕日に くるまれていたいから...
(because I want to be enveloped in the twilight sunset)

..ずっと抱きしめていてね 日溜まりの中で
(embrace me forever in this sunlit spot)"

I had a conversation with a friend about staying single forever the other night. I couldn't imagine it though; It's not about the lust (or the "horny" as they'd put it), it's not about procreating for the family (wouldn't mind a cute daughter.. they'd be less of a fuss than a son)... it's about finding the acceptance and the warmth (both emotionally and physically).

Heh, maybe I should learn how to fold origami stars and swans..

Coldplay - What If

"And no poem or song
could put right what I got wrong"

I guess this one's a bit of irony.. A poem can build bridges; a song can burn bridges. I suppose having differing preconceptions is where it all changes.

"You know that darkness always turns into light."

So we hope, whether it be providing light or finding light elsewhere.

Red Hot Chili Peppers - Aeroplane

"..music is my aeroplane..
..just one note could make me float.."

I suppose the first post needs to reflect the URL and purpose of this site. To put it simply, music can alter emotions so readily. I'm not a musical theory buff who'll be able to tell you how a certain chord progression gives a certain feeling of closure, or how a song written in minor seems more saddening; that's not my aim anyway. I'm blogging about the feeling you get when you're reading through the text, and one line just grabs at you. Yes, you think, this captures a certain moment so perfectly. Maybe it's the feeling that someone out there has been in your situation, maybe it's the resolution provided in songs, maybe it's merely the headbanging beat in the background which spruces your mood up.. I can't really say.

People who've friended me for a while will have noted that I like pasting lyrics everywhere... my display name, my personal message, my facebook.. I've always wanted to collate them, so they could act as a footprint for my life at certain points. I guess it's about time I started.
